Gamertag checker
Questions
How does the gamertag checker work?
It asks Xbox Live whether an account with that exact gamertag exists. If one does, the name is taken and you can open that player's profile. If none does, the name is free right now.
If a gamertag shows as available, can I always get it?
Not always. Xbox can reserve or block some names, and someone else may take it before you do.
What are the gamertag rules?
Up to 12 characters, using letters, numbers and single spaces. It can't start with a number or a space. When a name is taken, Xbox can add a number suffix such as #1234.
Does this check Minecraft Java usernames?
No. Minecraft Bedrock uses your Xbox gamertag. Java Edition usernames are separate and are checked on Java name sites.
How do I change my gamertag?
Change it on xbox.com or in the Xbox app under your profile. Minecraft picks up the new name the next time you sign in.
