Pet Tracker
Pet Tracker adds a simple craftable item that helps you locate nearby loaded tamed pets.
๐พ Pet Tracker
Lost your pet again? Craft a Pet Locator and follow its direction instead of searching your whole base.
Pet Tracker shows your pets' distance, direction and height difference. It can display up to 3 pets at once and remembers their last known location when they are no longer detected nearby.
New pets register automatically when you tame them with the addon active. Their saved locations stay available after you leave and return to the world.
โญ Main Features
- ๐งญ Directional arrows that follow where you are looking.
- ๐พ Up to 3 pets displayed in separate, stacked lines.
- ๐ Live detection of loaded pets within 512 blocks.
- ๐ Saved last known locations, including beyond the live detection range.
- ๐ค Automatic owner registration when you tame a new pet.
- โ๏ธ Height difference when a pet is above or below you.
- ๐ท๏ธ Custom pet names shown in the tracker.
- ๐ Instructions directly in the Pet Locator's lore.
- ๐ฌ Tracking information on screen instead of long chat lists.
- ๐ฅ Separate pet records for each player.
- ๐งฉ No
player.jsonor replacement vanilla entity files. - ๐งช No experimental gameplay toggles required.
๐งญ Craft the Pet Locator
Combine these ingredients at a Crafting Table:
- 1 Compass
- 1 Bone

The recipe is inexpensive, so you can use the locator during normal Survival progression.
๐ฎ How to Use It
- Tame a new pet with Pet Tracker active to register its owner automatically.
- Hold the Pet Locator.
- Use the item or start sneaking once to enable tracking.
- Follow the arrow and watch the distance.
- Use it or sneak again while holding it to disable tracking.
The instructions are also included in the item's lore, including locators you already have in your inventory.
Putting the locator away hides the display. If tracking is still enabled, holding it again brings the display back.
๐พ Track Up to 3 Pets
The tracker prioritizes your 3 most recently registered pets, with each pet displayed on its own line.
Each line can show:
- Pet name or entity type.
- Distance in blocks.
- An arrow relative to your viewing direction.
- A cardinal direction, such as N, SW or E.
- Vertical distance when the pet is approximately 3 blocks or more above or below you.

Tracking display example. Version 1.3.4 supports up to three stacked pet lines.
For example, a line may look like:
Buddy | 42 m | โ NE โ8m
Turn until the arrow points forward, then follow it. The height indicator helps when your pet is underground or on another floor.
If fewer than three of your pets are available, remaining lines may show nearby tamed animals with an unknown owner, clearly marked with ?.
๐ Last Known Location
When a registered pet is no longer detected in the live tracking range, the locator can guide you toward its last saved position.
These entries are marked "Last location" so you can distinguish them from a live pet position.
- Saved positions can remain available beyond 512 blocks.
- Records are kept when you leave and return to the world.
- Records in another dimension show the dimension instead of a misleading direction.
- When the pet is detected again, its location updates.

A last known location is a saved position, not confirmation that the pet is still there. The addon does not load distant chunks to check it.
When the addon detects a registered pet's death, it removes that pet's saved record.
๐ก Live Range and Supported Pets
Live detection works with loaded entities in your current dimension, within 512 blocks.
Increasing the range does not load distant areas. If a pet's area is unloaded, the tracker uses its saved location when a personal record is available.
Pet Tracker uses Minecraft's taming information rather than a list limited to one animal. Familiar examples include wolves, cats and parrots. Support for custom pets depends on whether they use compatible taming components and events.
๐ Languages
- English
- Spanish - Spain and Mexico
Item names, instructions and tracking messages are translated.
๐งฉ Compatibility
- Uses the stable Script API.
- Does not require experimental gameplay toggles.
- Does not include
player.json. - Does not replace vanilla pet entity definitions.
- Each player can use their own locator in multiplayer worlds and Realms.
This avoids conflicts caused by Pet Tracker replacing player or pet definitions. Compatibility with custom pets depends on how those addons implement taming.
